There was once a teacher in a village. His name was John Smith. He was a kind-hearted man, but he was always poor. He taught himself medicine, so sometimes people called him Doctor Smith.One day a poor woman asked Mr. Smith to go and see her husband, because he was very ill and could not get up. Mr. Smith did so. He found that the family needed help very much. The man was out of work for a long time.
