Group Overview
The Mobile and Sensing Systems Group (MASS) at Microsoft Research Asia is investigating some of the most exciting research problems arising from mobile and sensing systems and applications. Given the ubiquity of networked sensors and actuators, proliferation of smartphones, and ever-increasing urgency to address societal scale challenges, we believe future mobile and sensing systems will have a significant impact on our everyday lives, from environment, to health, energy, productivity, and entertainment. We are currently working on a number of topics, including mobile systems, sensor networks, localization, energy efficiency, participatory sensing, activity recognition, and smart buildings.
Roles & Responsibilities
The intern will be working on research projects in the areas of: embedded devices, wireless networking, and mobile systems.
Required Qualifications:
Hands-on experiences in hardware and embedded devices
Strong programming skills
Solid foundation in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
Interested in the areas of embedded systems, mobility, and wireless networking.
Good at English reading and writing
Good communication skills and excellent teamwork
Can commit at least 3 months, 5 days a week (with your advisors approval where applicable)
Experiences with any of the following would be a plus but not required:
Experiences with circuit design, PCB design and layout
Experiences in mobile phone development environments and tools
Experiences with RFID and/or RF design and debugging
Driver development
Experiences with TinyOS development
Familiar with data manipulation and math programs such as Matlab
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, or Perl
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and application
